The First Ladies of America are always known for their fashion statement. Remember, the late Jacqueline Kennedy, whose fashion was a craze around the globe? Her style was copied by commercial manufacturers and a large segment of young women. Nevertheless, Michelle Obama, the current First Lady, is also following the same foot steps. Being a fashion aficionado, Michelle Obama has also been in news constantly for her unusual style.

Recently, in an ostentatious dinner party hosted by the American President Barak Obama for the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Mrs. Gursharan Kaur, Mrs. Obama was spotted wearing an elegant strapless gown designed by an Indian-American designer Naeem Khan. Woah! How else can the First Lady display hospitality to the Indian guest! Naeem Khan, known for his idiosyncratic styles, gave that Indian touch to the Lady’s gorgeous evening gown by hand-crafting it in India. The gown was just stunning with a classic floor-length cut which was adorned in beige color with silver sequinned floral motifs paired with a light shawl. What else, to add that conventional flavor to this Indo-western look, Mrs. Obama wore a pair of intricate chandelier earrings and a heap of glittering gold-and-diamond bangles piled high on her left arm, which was really adorable.

I am sure the Indian Prime Minister and his better-half must have been completely overwhelmed by such a warm welcome. Isn’t it?

Wear colorful bangles and get that funky yet traditional look!

Wednesday, November 25th, 2009

courtesy starr's boutiqueFashion these days has undoubtedly taken a bizarre form. And why not, it is the only platform where we can experiment incessantly. Talking about trends and styles adopted by women, it has really become a hybrid version of Indian and western, which is supposedly tagged as Indo-western look. Yes, goes well with the cliché ‘East meets West’!

The tradition of wearing bangles in India dates back to the ancient times. And, even today, Courtesy divaVillagewomenfolk love to enhance their feminine grace and beauty with the help of bangles that are available in variety of forms. The style statement of a modern woman is a blend of traditional and contemporary look. I remember there was a time when most of the women, particularly in India, used to say that I don’t like to get decked up with lot of accessories. But now the trend has changed. Women wear jeans and along with that she wears vibrant funky bangles, heavy necklaces, long earrings, et al. But trust me they really look pretty even in this weird combination! And what else, if celebrities, viz, Beyonce Knowles (famous American Singer) goes for such look, then it ought to be a trend. Recently, Beyonce was spotted wearing colorful bangles while treading the red carpet.

Rather than particular type of bangles, I guess these days different kind of bangles in different shapes, colors, and variety are in trend. For instance, gold bangles are BJM Accessories courtesynever out of style and are perfect for a traditional and gorgeous look. These kinds of bangles look just right when teamed with gorgeous zari woven silk sarees. Glass bangles and ethnic bangles studded with stones or mirrors were and will always be popular. Also bright and colorful lac, acrylic, wood and plastic bangles in different shapes, viz, square, wavy, oval, triangle, etc., that are teamed with indo-western outfits, have been quite popular for a while. Actually speaking they are the most sought-after these days.

Oh! this reminds me that few days back while waiting at the bus stop; I came across this chic girl who was wearing a casual jeans and plain white T-shirt. But what added charm to her simple modern look were the multi-hued plastic bangles that she was wearing that too only in her one hand. Being a color freak, I really liked the combination of bangles in vivacious yellow, red, blue, and green. It was really going well with her simple attire. Those colorful kadas exhibited that bubbly look in that girl.

So, I am going to buy some colorful bangles soon on my next shopping spree. Hope you will also buy some for yourself. Definitely, it will grab some attention around!
