Dhoni's Wedding

Apart from the speculation as to who would win the 2010 FIFA World Cup (Holland or Spain), Indian sports fans have another hot topic to discuss about, M.S. Dhoni’s Wedding.

Breaking the hearts of millions of his female fans, Dhoni tied the knot with childhood friend Sakshi Rawat in a simple marriage ceremony in Dehradun on 4th July 2010. The low-profile Wedding was a private affair and was attended by family and close friends. Amongst fellow Indian cricketers, those present were Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Ashish Nehra, RP Singh, Harbhajan Singh, etc. And for the eminent few who weren’t present, well, that did spark some controversy..

The Bollywood touch was fulfilled by the presence of John Abraham and Farah Khan while Bipasha Basu expressed her regret about not being able to attend the wedding.

The marriage ceremony was held at Vishranti Resort amidst tight security in order to avoid the media people from snooping around. The ceremony was conducted according to the traditional Kumaoni customs. A strictly vegetarian menu featured a 15-course meal.

Dhoni's Wedding

Dhoni chose to get married in an exquisite dark blue Wedding Jodhpuri Suit featuring deep blue inner shirt with pin-tucks and stand collars. The navy blue blazer revealed exquisite decorative pattern with sparkling silver embellishments along the front panel and cuffs. His lovely bride, Sakshi, wore a gorgeous maroon and green Bridal Lehenga Choli. Rich maroon Lehenga featured zari woven motifs with embellished dark green border along the hem while the Choli in dark green was glamorized with zari woven motifs. Maroon net Dupatta revealed embellished dark green borders along with motifs throughout. Traditional gold Bridal Jewelry completed the ensemble. With her simple and sweet smile, she looked quite the demure and young traditional Indian bride.

Dhoni’s decision of marrying his long-time friend has been highly appreciated and admired by everyone since it shows that in spite of being so successful he hasn’t really forgotten his childhood sweetheart. As the whole nation is congratulating the newly weds, we, too, wish the couple a great life together!!

Manisha Koirala Weds Samrat Dahal

One of the prettiest faces with the sweetest smile in Bollywood, Manisha Koirala, the Nepali beauty belonging to an illustrious Nepali family still reigns the hearts of millions. Apart from being an instant heartthrob of the nation thanks to her sugary sweet smile, she also stunned the nation with her extraordinary acting skills. She may not have had many box office blockbusters to her credit but she has successfully carved her niche as an actress par excellence with unforgettable performances in films such as 1942: A Love Story, BombayKhamoshi, Dil Se, Company, etc.

After being involved in a couple of relationships, she finally tied the knot with fellow Nepali businessman Samrat Dahal, who hails from a business family and also owns an alternative energy company in Nepal. She met Samrat Dahal on Facebook and they had been dating for about a year. Her traditional Nepali wedding at Kathmandu was a three-day extravaganza graced by quite a few Bollywood celebs such as Jackie Shroff, Gulshan Grover, Suman Ranganathan, Deepti Naval, Rani Mukherjee, etc.

Engagement

For the engagement/Mehndi ceremony Manisha Koirala looked radiant and beautiful draped in mustard yellow Designer Saree with contrast red border dazzled with sequins. The Saree was enhanced with sequins and zari embroidered motifs. She accessorized it with a diamond necklace set featuring lovely danglers. She, undoubtedly, looked her best on this day except for the hairdo. Maybe a different style of hair bun would have been better!

Wedding

The Wedding was more of a private ceremony with only close friends and family invited. Manisha looked quite the beautiful and traditional bride clad in a gorgeous red Bridal Dupatta Saree on her Wedding Day. The red Bridal Saree was further glamorized with embellished golden floral pattern. Keeping with the traditional theme, the red Bridal Dupatta Saree was accessorized with extremely gorgeous traditional golden Bridal jewellery. But what made her look stunning was her dazzling smile which never faded away throughout the Wedding, irrespective of the fact that she fainted once due to fatigue during her Wedding. Now here’s a perfect example of a tired yet happy bride!!

Reception

The Wedding Reception was one grand and lavish affair with around 3000 guests invited. Noted film personalities, political leaders and top dignitaries of Nepal were present at the Reception. About her Reception outfit, the less said the better. In simple words, the gaudy blue Lehenga Choli dazzled with stones and kundans coupled with glittering diamond necklace set didn’t do much to make Manisha look her best. Clearly, it wasn’t her day; instead, it was Samrat who stole the show. He looked extremely suave and sophisticated in his navy blue Men’s Suit. It has to be mentioned here that he bears a striking resemblance to Barack Obama. (I’m sure quite a few would agree!!)

Monsoon Wedding Fashion Tips: Bride and Groom

Monsoon Wedding

A faint drizzle definitely helps set the mood for a romantic wedding. Perhaps, nothing can be more enchanting than that. But there’s no saying when that romantic drizzle would turn into an annoying torrential downpour leaving everyone worried about saving themselves and everything else from getting wet. Monsoon weddings tend to be chaotic and messy, but if planned the proper way by making sensible choices, one would be better equipped to handle and enjoy a monsoon wedding rather than cursing the bad weather.

The people who worry about monsoon weddings the most (apart from the guests attending it) are, of course, the people getting married. Once the vital arrangements are taken care of such as finalizing the date and time of the wedding considering the weather report (so as not to face the worst of the monsoons), choosing an apt wedding venue such as indoor wedding venue or maybe a waterproof tent, including suitable food for rainy season on the menu, etc the bride and the groom then worry about how to look their best in this damp and wet time of the year. Come rain or sunshine, everyone wants to and needs to look their best on their wedding day.

Monsoon Wedding Bridal Lehenga Choli

Dress the right way and those raindrops won’t come in the way of you looking gorgeous. Forget flares. Tight-fitting and body hugging Bridal Lehenga Cholis are best in this season. Straight cut or A-line and Mermaid cut Bridal Lehengas with slight flare would be ideal for brides. While rich silks and brocades are a big NO; the fabrics to choose would be those that are lightweight and dry up quickly. Georgette, viscose, light silk, net with shimmer lining underneath, etc prove to be the best fabric choices for monsoon wedding outfits. As it tends to be cool and windy this time of the year, Bridal outfits with inner lining would be better since those would help to keep warm. As light colors tend to get dirty quite easily, it’s practical to opt for darker shades but then again not those drab and dreary ones. One of the best ways to liven up a gloomy monsoon wedding is to wear rich and vibrant colors that are refreshing and rejuvenating to look at such as bright blues, greens, pinks, etc. Bridal outfits adorned with resham embroidery, zari embroidery, zardozi are best avoided rather Bridal outfits with sparkling sequins, beads, kundans are perfect.

Monsoon Wedding Sherwani

For bridegrooms, Sherwani paired with Churidar would be perfect. Stay away from Sherwanis paired with voluminous Dhotis as managing those numerous folds and drapes in this wet weather could take forever. The latest trendy knee length Sherwani paired with Churidar would actually be the best monsoon wedding outfit for bridegrooms. Sherwanis in thinner fabrics such as thinner varieties of silks would be comfortable and manageable.

Don’t let this wet and gloomy season dampen your wedding celebrations. Dress according to the season, look good and enjoy your Monsoon Wedding!!

Sania-Shoaib

Sania-Shoaib

After a round of wedding functions and celebrations in India, it was Pakistan’s turn to witness Sania Mirza-Shoaib Malik wedding revelry. But much to the couple’s and family’s disappointment, the celebrations turned sour due to mismanagement; the prime cause being unruly guests bothering and pestering the couple to pose for pictures with them at both the reception ceremonies held in Sialkot and Lahore.

Sialkot Reception

Sialkot Reception

Unruly guests might have marred the wedding celebrations but Sania’s outfits which were designed for her reception parties in Pakistan were truly stunning! Designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil did an amazing job in making Sania look the perfect bride. Of all her wedding functions, it was at the reception in Sialkot that Sania, undoubtedly, looked her best. Clad in a dull cream Lehenga with long choli which was dazzled with sequins and flaunted eye-catching red velvet work in decorative pattern, Sania simply looked stunning in this Shantanu and Nikhil Lehenga Choli. She paired it with a gorgeous necklace set and, of course, her signature maang teeka. Her charming little box clutch studded with red stones blended well with her outfit. Shoaib flaunted a white Sherwani with a bold embellished paisley motif at the front panel.

Lahore Reception

Lahore Reception

At the walima in Lahore, the couple opted for an elegant look. Shoaib looked handsome in a classy Western formal Suit. Sania was spotted in Shantanu and Nikhil Long Choli Lehenga in light bluish grey featuring self woven pattern. While the shade of the outfit was really elegant, the silhouette wasn’t quite flattering. But thanks to her hairdo and elegant stone-studded necklace set, she managed to pull it off with some success.

The Swayamvar finally ended with a marriage as Rahul Mahajan had claimed. And the choice was Dimpy Ganguly, model and aspiring actress from Kolkata, as Mrs. Mahajan.

Quite an interesting jodi, with 14 years of age difference and both possessing quite similar traits when it comes to habits, lifestyle including a ‘colorful past’. They might just be made for each other!

Will this marriage last? Only time will tell..

The outfits of the brides-to-be were always gorgeous but when ace designers were made to design outfits and dress up the three finalists, things got a li’l more glamorous. Neeta Lulla designed outfits for the vivacious Dimpy Ganguly (now Mrs. Mahajan), gorgeous Harpreet Chhabra’s outfits were designed by Ashley Rebello while the tall and elegant Nikunj Malik was quite excited to have Vikram Phadnis as her designer.

For the wedding night, the three brides-to-be were at their gorgeous best. Harpreet, being a Sardarni, opted for a gorgeous deep pink and red Patiala suit. Dimpy stuck to the traditional all red bridal saree draped in Bengali style. Nikunj chose a heavily embellished turquoise and burgundy Lehenga Choli as her bridal wear.
