A royal wedding

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Weddings mean opulence and what better way to make it magnificent than to give it a regal touch….and you don’t have to be royalty for that!!

Jodhaa Akbar

Jodhaa Akbar

The mention of the word ‘royal’ or ‘royalty’ immediately conjures up images of the stunningly beautiful Aishwarya Rai adorned in breathtakingly gorgeous outfits and jewellery beside a majestic Hritik Roshan in his ornate Sherwanis. Such is the impact of Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodhaa Akbar that, of late, we associate everything regal with this epic movie.

Inspired by its gorgeous outfits, we have included few traditionally styled opulent Lehenga Cholis, Sherwanis along with magnificent necklace sets in our wedding collection.

Be it bridal wear or an ensemble to attend a wedding, we suggest re-create the Jodhaa Akbar look, i.e., if you can handle the opulence.

Traditional Lehenga Choli

Traditional Lehenga Choli

Select an ornately embellished Lehenga Choli in warm shades of orange, red, golden or rich tones of maroon and green, which flaunts exquisite embellishments. For the wedding, it would be better to not be tempted by the figure flattering contemporary mermaid cut or paneled Lehenga Cholis. Instead, opt for the ethnic flared ones to capture the authentic traditional look of Jodhaa Akbar.

Stylish Lehenga Choli

Save the contemporary silhouettes such as mermaid cut and paneled Lehenga Cholis for reception. You can even consider a Lehenga style Sari.

Gorgeous Necklace Sets

Do not comprmise on jewellery. The more gorgeous it is the better. Kundan necklace sets with broad and wide necklaces, chandelier earrings and beautiful maang teekas would truly make you look regal. A small round red bindi on the forehead, and your ‘Jodhaa’ look is complete.

Traditional Sherwani

Now for the ‘Akbar’ look…  Rather than a regular Sherwani, opt for a three piece Sherwani in classic shades of  beige, cream, off white, pale golden, etc. The long embellished jacket in a three piece Sherwani makes all the difference. To add drama to your ensemble, you can try accessorizing it with long strings of pearls.

Well, you are all set to get married in royal style now.

Are you crazy about earrings?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

If you are a girl, love for earring, for that matter, any jewelry is obvious. I remember, when I was a kid, I used to wear my mum’s long earrings and boast around. Trust me; I was crazy about those funky, ethnic earrings that mum used to have with her – particularly the long ones. I love the way it softly tickles on our shoulder, the way it keeps moving when we talk, when we move our heads here and there … it’s really cute … Isn’t it?

Earlier, only conventional women used to wear long earrings. It was not really a craze among women who preferred modern look. There was also a period in between when women used to abhor wearing earrings saying they are so uncomfortable to carry. But today, be it a modern or a traditional woman, everyone is just mad about earrings. I remember, during my school days, it was considered taboo if you wear earrings with jeans or any western outfit. But today be in any attire, women don’t move back from boasting the exotic and ethnic earrings that they have. And obviously, we don’t forget to match it well with our attire … also we don’t forget to contrast it with our outfit … just to experiment, right?

Silver plated earrings

Nevertheless, as far as earrings are concerned, hoop earrings are always in style. They are classics, be it plain or studded with stones. Gemstone studs and drop earrings are simple and elegant, even though they are not exactly very popular but at the same time not out of fashion either. Long earrings, of course, are very popular. But not the ultra long string earrings, they are completely out now. Chandelier style is the current trend now. Rather than the oversized, big and bold types; it’s the medium sized, elegant and sleek chandelier earrings that are gaining popularity. It goes perfect with western and indo-western outfits such as long skirts, jeans and kurtis. When it comes to traditional Indian outfits, gorgeous jhumkas with beads and stones are the best bet.

Whoa! So much of variety … I am drooling now … yes I mean it! I am going to try some of them very soon … What about you?

sure NO! Wearing a nose ring or Nath as called in Hindi or Mookuthi in Tamil, actually helps nose ringwomen during sexual union as the carbon emitted during the sexual union is minimized by wearing a metallic (Gold, Silver) ornament in the nose. Thus, the Indian aesthetic befittingly adorns the female nose with an inspired ornament, which highlights its amorous connotations. Indeed, it is the most seductive ornament anyone woman can wear!

Now not only in India, populace from the West also treats their nose with beautiful nose rings. They adopted it from the hippee and punk cultures of 80s and 90s. Not only women, even men over there wear it, to be one among the hep cohort. So girls, if you feel that the old ones at your home are unnecessarily forcing you to wear this traditional ornament don’t worry much. Who knows this ornament would become your style statement as well!
