Dhoni's Wedding

Apart from the speculation as to who would win the 2010 FIFA World Cup (Holland or Spain), Indian sports fans have another hot topic to discuss about, M.S. Dhoni’s Wedding.

Breaking the hearts of millions of his female fans, Dhoni tied the knot with childhood friend Sakshi Rawat in a simple marriage ceremony in Dehradun on 4th July 2010. The low-profile Wedding was a private affair and was attended by family and close friends. Amongst fellow Indian cricketers, those present were Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, Ashish Nehra, RP Singh, Harbhajan Singh, etc. And for the eminent few who weren’t present, well, that did spark some controversy..

The Bollywood touch was fulfilled by the presence of John Abraham and Farah Khan while Bipasha Basu expressed her regret about not being able to attend the wedding.

The marriage ceremony was held at Vishranti Resort amidst tight security in order to avoid the media people from snooping around. The ceremony was conducted according to the traditional Kumaoni customs. A strictly vegetarian menu featured a 15-course meal.

Dhoni's Wedding

Dhoni chose to get married in an exquisite dark blue Wedding Jodhpuri Suit featuring deep blue inner shirt with pin-tucks and stand collars. The navy blue blazer revealed exquisite decorative pattern with sparkling silver embellishments along the front panel and cuffs. His lovely bride, Sakshi, wore a gorgeous maroon and green Bridal Lehenga Choli. Rich maroon Lehenga featured zari woven motifs with embellished dark green border along the hem while the Choli in dark green was glamorized with zari woven motifs. Maroon net Dupatta revealed embellished dark green borders along with motifs throughout. Traditional gold Bridal Jewelry completed the ensemble. With her simple and sweet smile, she looked quite the demure and young traditional Indian bride.

Dhoni’s decision of marrying his long-time friend has been highly appreciated and admired by everyone since it shows that in spite of being so successful he hasn’t really forgotten his childhood sweetheart. As the whole nation is congratulating the newly weds, we, too, wish the couple a great life together!!

Sania-Shoaib

Sania-Shoaib

After a round of wedding functions and celebrations in India, it was Pakistan’s turn to witness Sania Mirza-Shoaib Malik wedding revelry. But much to the couple’s and family’s disappointment, the celebrations turned sour due to mismanagement; the prime cause being unruly guests bothering and pestering the couple to pose for pictures with them at both the reception ceremonies held in Sialkot and Lahore.

Sialkot Reception

Sialkot Reception

Unruly guests might have marred the wedding celebrations but Sania’s outfits which were designed for her reception parties in Pakistan were truly stunning! Designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil did an amazing job in making Sania look the perfect bride. Of all her wedding functions, it was at the reception in Sialkot that Sania, undoubtedly, looked her best. Clad in a dull cream Lehenga with long choli which was dazzled with sequins and flaunted eye-catching red velvet work in decorative pattern, Sania simply looked stunning in this Shantanu and Nikhil Lehenga Choli. She paired it with a gorgeous necklace set and, of course, her signature maang teeka. Her charming little box clutch studded with red stones blended well with her outfit. Shoaib flaunted a white Sherwani with a bold embellished paisley motif at the front panel.

At the walima in Lahore, the couple opted for an elegant look. Shoaib looked handsome in a classy Western formal Suit. Sania was spotted in Shantanu and Nikhil Long Choli Lehenga in light bluish grey featuring self woven pattern. While the shade of the outfit was really elegant, the silhouette wasn’t quite flattering. But thanks to her hairdo and elegant stone-studded necklace set, she managed to pull it off with some success.

Rocky S Collection

Rocky S Collection

Exquisite fabrics and vibrant hues marked the bridal collection of Rocky S that was showcased at the 15th edition of Wills India Fashion Week. The collection included traditional Indian silhouettes such as saris, lehenga cholis, churidar suits, sherwanis, etc.

The designer said that he wanted to keep his collection simple and traditional as the bride’s family was the prime focus while putting together this collection. Use of rich shades such as red, blue, green, burgundy, etc coupled with ethnic embroidered patterns and motifs made this collection gorgeous.

It was a treat for the eyes when showstoppers mother-daughter duo walked the ramp for designer Rocky S, looking lovely together. Esha Deol flaunted an ornately embellished green Lehenga with spaghetti style Choli in maroon while the ever so beautiful Hema Malini was seen draped in a blue saree with brown pallu featuring bold embellished border which was paired with orange blouse.

Designer Cholis

Designer Cholis

Lehenga with a designer Choli such as halter neck Choli, spaghetti style Choli, bustier style Choli, etc would be perfect for pre-wedding functions or wedding reception parties. Instead of a traditional Lehenga Choli, such stylish Lehenga Cholis would be ideal for modern or contemporary weddings.

Lehenga Style Saree – Advanced version of Saree!

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

lssChanging trends, tastes and lifestyle define fashion. What might belss1 considered ‘in’ or a ‘must-have’ this season could be considered ‘hopelessly passé’ tomorrow. True, that there are timeless and classic style trends that never go out of fashion, but fashion calls for the need to innovate and revamp those same old outfits adding a touch of difference.

An ideal example to illustrate this would be the timeless Indian saree. Saree has been subjected to various stages of metamorphoses, so to speak, that make it more fun and interesting. Pre-stitched pleats and pallus, ruching, ruffles, etc. add a contemporary touch to this traditional wear. Stylish readymade sarees act as a convenient alternative to the more conventional saree. But of all the alternatives, what has really caught my eye is the fashionable Lehenga Style Saree.

Reasons that make this outfit the hottest trend nowadays are its flattering silhouette, convenience, and contemporary appeal. In a lehenga style saree, the pleats are replaced with ornately embellished panels or godets, adding drama to this drape. It has to be draped just like a saree by tucking into the inskirt. The only difference is, that unlike a saree you don’t have to form pleats but simply ‘tuck-and-drape’ … Now, isn’t that cool? At times, the design and styling of this outfit also determines the way it should be draped. Although normally it needs to be tucked and draped, few come with side hooks which make our job even simpler. Looks great and saves time too!

Aesthetically blending the appeal of a saree and lehenga choli, the lehenga style saree has emerged as a stylish and convenient option in recent times. This new ensemble is all set to take over from the saree and lehenga choli. This dramatic and sensuously stylish drape would be perfect for evening parties and semi-formal occasions which demand lots of glitz and glamor. Even though it would suit almost everyone, these new drapes work best for tall and leaner body types.

I am already feeling content thinking about this lehenga style saree…. Why? Guys, finally I have got relief from draping a conventional saree which I feel is ‘the most’ difficult thing! Do you agree with me?
